Keihin Carburetor General Description (DVD: C300EXC01D)
This DVD applies to all Motorcycles and ATVs with Keihin Carburetors
The procedure is demonstrated on a 2 stroke motorcycle and a 4 stroke motorcycle so you will only need to purchase one DVD to cover any bike or ATV you may purchase. The DVD applies to FCR Keihin Carburetor. It does not directly apply to CV (constant velocity) carburetors.
Tuning a carburetor can be tricky. Incorrect carburetor settings could result in poor performance or a seized engine ($$$). There are numerous main jet sizes, pilot jet sizes and needles to choose from. There is also an air screw or fuel screw, a float height and an idle screw to adjust. We’ll show you how these components interact so you can tune your carburetor for your temperature and altitude.

The video begins with a bike that won’t start and walks you step-by-step through the process of tuning the carburetor. The certified mechanic makes incremental changes that won’t jeopardize the life of the engine. After each modification is made on the 2 stroke, we’ll show you what the exhaust smoke looks like and the mechanic will describe why he’s making the next modification. You can see each part through disassembly and reassembly. On the 4 stroke, the mechanic will show how the bike runs in a lean condition and describe how it would run if it were running rich. No steps are skipped.
This DVD is designed for those who prefer watching a demonstration rather than reading a manual or fumbling your way through the process. After watching our detailed step-by-step video, you should be able to tune your carburetor.
We’ll show you how to do this in your garage without any special tools. The mechanic speaks slowly so you can watch the video and take notes if you like. Unlike most maintenance videos that focus on the actor, this video is shot at close range so you can see the details.
Note: The video was filmed on a FCR (Flat Side CR) type of carburetor. The FCR and CV (Constant Velocity) carburetors operate differently. Customers with CV type carburetors have tuned their carb successfully after watching the DVD. If you have moderate mechanical experience you shouldn't have any problems. If you are unsure which type you have, most carburetors are stamped with "FCR" or "CV" near the bottom of the carburetor.
